On Thursday, February 15th, 2018 we’ll be hosting a cookbook swap for all members at the co-op from 3-7!
We’ve all got cookbooks that go unused and unloved in our kitchens, maybe because we’ve exhausted the recipes or they weren’t what we expected. Instead of letting them lay dormant, give them new life by placing them in another BTB community member’s hands. This is a great way to try new recipes and connect with your community through our collective love for cooking…and eating!
Simply bring in a cookbook you no longer want or use, give it up, check out the awesome contributions from our community, then pick out a new (used) one to take home! Couldn’t be easier!
For those that want to get a head start on spring cleaning and want to contribute extra unwanted cookbooks, you are welcome to bring those in as well. We can make sure that any leftover cookbooks at the end of our exchange make it to the free market or to a charitable organization.
Peterborough Regional Farmers Network is excited to invite you to the first ever Farm n’ Chef Local Food Celebration! We hope you can attend this event on Sunday October 1st from 4pm until 8pm at Market Hall in Peterborough. You will be served some of the finest regional farm ingredients crafted into delicious tapas by some of Peterborough’s top chefs and then be able to dance the night away with an old fashion square dance lead by the Doh See Dough Boyz
Thursday, Sept 14 from 4-6

We will once again be joining in on this car-free, open-streets event! By the Bushel is an advocate of reducing food miles through sustainable transportation, so we just had to come back!
That being said, we are looking for volunteers to give us some time (minimum 1 hour) during the event to chat with community members, or to help with our set-up or take-down!
If you have any questions or would like to volunteer, please email email@example.com
This past Saturday, May 27th, By the Bushel was again present at the long-running Gilmour Street Garage Sale. We have had a great time attending this event in the past, and this year was no different! We had our info booth set up to chat up bargain hunters, a table selling delicious coffee (Kyoto Coffee), tea, and herbal iced tea, as well as a seedling sale table selling a variety of heirloom tomatoes run by Paula of Sun Root Organics (and our Production Coordinator!). We were also very lucky to have two energetic and friendly volunteers help run our booth: Becky, a past employee and longtime supporter and consumer member, and Will, a current Board member and active consumer member.
It is always so important to us to reach out to the community and let them know what kind of options exist for local food access, as well as why it is important to utilize these channels to make meaningful changes in the local and broader food system. Overall, we made some fantastic connections within our community, sharing By the Bushel’s story and values, while hearing your own stories and your own desires within the local food community.
See you next year, Gilmour Street!
Sign up for fresh, local produce all winter long.
